Games Inbox: Have you ever wanted to be a game developer?

On the subject of decent kids games, some good suggestions have been made recently, many of which my five-year-old son and I have enjoyed over the last couple of years. Games such as Rayman Legends, the Lego games (especially Marvel Super Heroes), and Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime. And I’d like to add Toy Story 3 and Cars 2 on the Xbox 360 to the list as they’re both surprisingly great, and a little indie gem called Sealife Safari which even a toddler can enjoy.

However, what I find baffling is that the obvious kid friendly franchises remain largely untouched (certainly this generation). Where’s the Postman Pat/Crazy Taxi mash-up? The Mr Men tickle ‘em-up, The Simpsons Skool Daze, or the Scooby-Doo ghost hunt game?

Why does no game let me beat up Peppa Pig? (sort of joking).

The Lego games are all well and good but a lot of the franchises aren’t overly familiar to the very young kids the gameplay is suited to. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic World, and even Harry Potter I’d argue are more appropriate for the over eights, who have probably moved on to more advanced games.

So come on game companies. At the very least give us a Hey Duggee Katamari Damacy game! I’ll even let my children play it occasionally. Ah woof.

GC: We sympathise entirely, but we fear games aimed at a very young crowd like that are almost exclusively on mobiles nowadays. From a quick look on the App store all of the franchises you mention are covered, although we’re very sceptical as to their quality.
